1978 Pontiac Trans Am

Inspiration of this build came from the owner’s passion for classic style, speed and corner carving and open road racing. What started as tastefully modified TA from the 80’s got brought into modern times as plans and designs kept changing. This car serves as 2nd Gen Engineering’s R&D car testing various components and ideas so we know what will and won’t work.  While always changing and improving, the result is a car that can perform in many driving styles and situations.

Fun , Fast and well balanced. While there are many unique things about the car, some highlights are as follows:

Engine: Fuel Injected, Full roller 474 ci Pontiac w/ KRE heads and trap door oil pan. Self tensioning serpentine accessory drive system.

Transmission: Triple carbon syncro T56 six speed. Hydraulic 12” clutch setup

Differential: GM 8.5” 10 bolt w/ 3.73 gears on Eaton tru-trac posi unit

Front Suspension: Tubular control arms w/ delrin bushings, Adjustable sway bar, double adjustable coilovers with jack screw for ride height adjustment.

Rear suspension: Adjustable shocks, Watts link differential centralizer, Adjustable sway bar

Frame: Fully seam welded & gusseted with subframe connectors integrated into body. ‘H beam’ to add rigidity to T Top body.

Body: Rotisserie restoration. Fully detailed undercarriage. Powdercoated underhood, drivetrain and suspension components. Ceramic heat and sound deadener.

Brakes: Hydroboost powered assisted 14” Front & 13” Rear Corvette C6 Z06 w/ slotted rotors

Wheels: 18×8.5 F, 18×9.5 R Forgeline WC3 3 piece rims

Cooling:  Dual row Aluminum radiator w/ twin programmable brushless fans pulling 4500 CFM mounted to custom designed shroud

Exhaust: Tri Y headers to 3” Oval X pipe w/ Spintech mufflers

Interior: Custom to blend stock style with comfort & support. One off gauges to mimic stock appearance w/ added oil temp, 200 mph speedo, Check engine light for EFI and LED lighting.

Electricals: All electrical systems are integrated into factory harness & use GM color codes for ease of maintenance.  Trunk mounted battery.  3 stage headlight system. Remote key fob for locks and trunk.

Stereo: 900 Watt 5 channel

Paint: House of Kolors. Airbrushed graphics and lettering
